Exposed to all day sun, with a dry slope bed and concrete patio, this garden thrives on a precise selection of plants that love these conditions.
Design
The design of this garden shares similarities with gardens located in climate zones that are somewhere between mediterranean and subtropical like those found in California, South Africa and Morocco. Although many plants are from dry desert regions, some like the citrus and euphorbia are native to South East Asia.

Enclosed, lush garden filled largely with plants native to South East Asia. The garden forms a buffer shading the east side of the house from morning sun and also providing an inside/outside area to sit in
Design
The design reflects the natural tendency of our local lowland forest to form a dense interwoven 'fabric' of vegetation. Plants grow upwards, epiphytes hang downwards and vines intertwine. Our local flora is also less about flowers and more about interesting foliage. For visual interest, dark foliage is selected to contrast with the many shades of green.
Some aspects of Japanese garden design are also used like Genkan, Tsubu - courtyard garden, Garden Path/stepping stones, Meigakure or controlled views with the use of cane blinds and Wabi Sabi - rustic pots and moss
